Clemson, S.C.—Lauren Salazar and Sloan Shanahan each had scores of 72 in the opening round of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla on Saturday. The Tigers had a team score of 15-over-par 295 on the par 70 course that is the home of the Oklahoma Sooners golf program. Clemson is tied for 13th in the 17-team team event with Texas. Mississippi State holds the team lead and was the only team under par in the opening round with a 277 team score. The 17 teams will play the second round on Sunday and the final round is on Monday. Salazar had one birdie and three bogeys to go with 15 pars in a consistent first round for Clemson’s number-one ranked player in terms of stroke average through the first two tournaments. Shanahan, who was a first-team All-ACC performer last year, had two birdies and four bogeys in also scoring a 72. Salazar and Shanahan are tied for 28th place in the 91 player field. McKenzie Talbert had two birdies and seven bogeys in shooting a 75. Freshman Marisa Messana had a 76 and Jessica Hoang added a 77.
