Tiger Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision To Illinois State

NORMAL, IL -The Tiger volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision (28-30, 30-25, 30-10, 30-23) to Illinois State on Saturday afternoon in Redbird Arena on the second day of the Barker GMC Classic. The Redbirds improve to 1-1, while the Tigers fall to 0-2 on the season.

Clemson’s Lori Ashton recorded a match-best 20 kills with a .405 hitting percentage. The middle hitter also led the Tigers at the net with five blocks (one solo). Freshman Liz Beckham added eight kills and hit .636 for the afternoon, while Ryane Beasley tallied seven kills with seven digs and three blocks. Lindsey Abbott posted a match-high 11 digs, and Stephanie Haskell handed out 40 assists with six digs and three kills.

Illinois State was paced by Emily Kabbes’ 16 kills, .429 hitting percentage, 10 digs and four blocks. Laura Doornbos posted a match-best 18 kills, while Ashley Grubb tallied 11 kills with four blocks. Staci Boyce served up a match-high five service aces, and Kelly Rikli recorded 52 assists with 10 digs and six kills.

Clemson returns to action tonight at 5:00 p.m. (CT) as the Tigers take on Illinois on the last day of the Barker GMC Classic.
