Tiger Track & Field to Compete Wednesday at USATF State Meet in Columbia

April 7, 2009

Clemson, SC – The Tiger track & field team will travel to Columbia on Wednesday to compete in the USATF State Meet at Weems Baskin Track. The meet, which was not originally on the 2009 outdoor schedule, will serve as Clemson’s final preparation for the ACC Championships in two weekends at the University of Miami.

The action gets started with the women’s steeplechase at 4:00 PM. Taylor Hughes are entered for Clemson. Other female athletes competing Wednesday will be Amanda Nelson, Brannon Sulka, and Ashley Vaughn in the 800m run.

The field event action will feature former All-ACC thrower Bethanie Wachna in the javelin. She competed last weekend in Gainesville, FL and recorded a solid throw, but will be looking for improvement Wednesday in the event. Wachna ranks second in school history in the javelin.

The pole vault will be an active event for Clemson athletes Wednesday. Joey O’Rourke will compete for the men’s crown, while Carlin Bartlett, Amy Morrison, and Kristen Zeleznik will vie for the women’s championship in the event. Katie Farnan rounds out Clemson’s list of participants, as the senior will compete in the high jump in the evening.
