Tiger Men’s Tennis Defeats Virginia 4-3 On Saturday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Clemson men’s tennis team defeated Virginia 4-3 on Saturday at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center. The Tigers improve to 21-9 overall and 5-2 in the ACC, while the Cavaliers drop to 20-6 on the season and 4-4 in conference action.

In singles play, Nathan Thompson fell to Doug Stewart 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 at number one singles. Sander Koning defeated Rylan Rizza at flight two singles by a score of 6-1, 6-1, while Jarmaine Jenkins won a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Mike Duquette at number three singles. At number four singles, Damiisa Robinson lost to Darrin Cohen at flight five singles by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Ash Misquith downed Nick Meythaler 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 at number six singles to clinch the match for the Tigers.

In doubles action, the Cavaliers won at the number one and two positions to earn the doubles point. Nathan Thompson and Jenkins fell to Duquette and Stewart 8-3 at number one doubles. At flight two doubles, Robinson and Boetsch dropped an 8-1 decision to Rizza and Meythaler. Koning and Brett Twente were victorious at number three doubles over Gonyer and Cohen, 8-4.

The Tigers will conclude regular season play tomorrow as they take on the Maryland Terrapins at 11:00 a.m.
