Tiger Men Finish Fifth, Women Finish Seventh at the Georgia Swimming and Diving Invitational

ATHENS, GA – The Clemson women completed the three-day Georgia Invitational in seventh place with 380 total points while the men compiled 398 points and finished fifth in the meet.

The Clemson women’s 400 free relay team of Patty Hider, Jenna Burtch, Elise Thieler, and Christine Woodruff claimed a second-place finish in the event with a time of 3:24.75. Burtch capped of an excellent weekend with a third-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 50.33. Kim Cober finished seventh for the Tigers in the 1650 free with a time of 16:56.58, and teammate Liz Dwors finished in eighth-place with a time of 17:04.45. Kate Walker earned an eight-place finish for Clemson in the 200 back with a time of 2:04.55.

Gregor Govse continued his impressive season in the breaststroke events by earning a third-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:00.36. Travis Taylor finished seventh on the 1650 free with a time of 16:03.11. Mark Henly earned a sixth-place finish for the Tigers in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47.56. Rob Kummer posted an eighth-place finish for Clemson in the men’s 100 fly with a time of 1:51.17. The men’s 400 free relay team of Josh Williams, Matt Wilson, Drew Scheerhorn, and Kenny Roberts recorded a seventh-place finish in the event with a time of 3:03.91.

Sunday’s final day of competition marked the last competition of the fall semester for the Tigers. Clemson will be back in action on Jan. 5, 2002 in Miami, when both the men and women’s teams cap off winter training with a tri-meet against Miami and Rutgers. The meet will be held at Whitten Union Pool and is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
