Charlie Bussey Tiger Lettermen’s Association Coordinator
Charlie Bussey started his athletic career at Clemson in 1953 as a freshman quarterback under the legendary Coach Frank Howard. As a senior he was the quarterback in the 1957 Orange Bowl and was Clemson’s first Academic All-American. While at Clemson he was a member of Tiger Brotherhood and Blue Key.
After graduation he served in the Air Force as a pilot instructor, and his business career included positions with Laurens Glass, Louis Batson Co. and Palmetto Chemicals. He was also Athletic Director at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA.
Bussey served Clemson in many varied areas including President of IPTAY, President of the Tiger Lettermen’s Association, committee member of the Commission for the Future of Clemson just to name a few. He is a member of the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame.
After Bussey’s recent retirement, George Bennett recognized his talents and asked him to coordinate the Tiger Lettermen’s Association. His duties include memberships, reunions, the Hall of Fame Banquet, and contacting former athletes for the Tiger Pride campaign.
Charlie and his wife, Joyce, have 3 daughters, Pam, Laurie and Jennie, all Clemson graduates. Their grandchildren are all sustaining Tiger Cubs, Lauren, Ben, Jill, Meg, Blake, Hope, and Davis.
