CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson track & field team will have a light weekend of work, with only select members of the Tiger distance groups headed to Palo Alto, CA for the Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Clemson will not compete at the UCF Invitational or the Raleigh Relays, as previously announced when the 2011 schedule was released.
Four men’s athletes and three women’s athletes will make the cross-country trip to California this weekend. The men’s group will include Nathan Hendershot, Ty McCormack, Chris Slate and Jasen Turnbull. Competing from the women’s team will be Elyse Borisko, Alyssa Kulik and Kim Ruck.
Clemson’s first competition will be the women’s 3000m steeplechase at 5:30 PM (Pacific time). Alyssa Kulik, Clemson’s record-holder in the event, is set to run that event. Kulik posted a solid season-opening time of 4:32.16 last weekend at Charlotte in the 1500m run.
Chris Slate will compete at 6:45 PM in the men’s 1500m run. Elyse Borisko will follow in the women’s 5000m competition at 7:05 PM. Ty McCormack, the top men’s cross country performer last fall who red-shirted the 2011 indoor season, is entered in the men’s 5K at 7:45.
Kim Ruck will close out Clemson’s action on Friday evening with the women’s 10K at approximately 9 PM. Ruck is No. 2 all-time in Clemson history for the event, having run a time of 33:42.88 at last year’s ACC Outdoor Championships in a third-place finish.
The Tigers’ lone action on Saturday will be the men’s 800m run, scheduled for 1:55 PM. Slate will compete alongside classmate Jasen Turnbull and freshman Hendershot in the event. Slate is coming off an ACC runner-up finish in the event, while both he and Turnbull qualified for last season’s inaugural NCAA East Preliminary Round in the 800 as well.
