Tiger Cross Country Teams Finish ACC Preparations in Boone

BOONE, NC – Clemson completed its final tuneup for the ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday with the Blue Ridge Open on the campus of Appalachian State University. The men’s team placed seventh in the 8K race, while the partial women’s squad finished 10th over a 5K course.

The men tallied 206 points. High Point won the event with a total of 76, edging Davidson by a mere one point in the team standings.

Chris Slate was the team’s top performer on Friday. The Delaware native crossed the finish line with a time of 25:51.26 and was 23rd overall in the individual race. It was a 20-spot gap back to Clemson’s No. 2 runner, Tyler Morey. The junior out of Combined Locks, WI had a time of 26:11.70. Jonathan Sunde was the third scorer with a 45th-place finish. Chad Holt (63rd) and Blake Kennedy (83rd) rounded out the scoring efforts for the Tiger team.

On the women’s side, Duke cruised to the team championship with 18 points. Virginia Tech was runner-up with 104 points, while UNC Wilmington came in third with 115.

The best runner for the Clemson women on Friday was freshman Lauren Reen, who continues to impress in her rookie campaign with the cross country squad. Reen was 15th and crossed the finish line with a 5K time of 18:23.57. Another freshman, Candace Sapp (104th) and Kelsey Armstrong.

Both teams will travel to Cary, NC for the ACC meet in two weeks on Saturday, Oct. 31.
