Three Tigers Post NCAA Qualifying Marks At Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, IN – The Clemson men’s track and field team completed competition at the 2005 Meyo Invitational held this weekend on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The Tigers’ Itay Magidi was a provisional qualifier in the 5000m, posting a time of 14:03.60 as the top collegiate in the field. That time ranks fourth on Clemson’s all-time list and is the fifth-fastest time in the nation this year. A native of Yavne, Israel, Magidi’s time also ranks third on the Israeli all-time list.

On the track, Ronald Richards and Tye Hill advanced to the finals of the 60m dash. Hill was the top finisher for the Tigers with a time of 6.85 to place fifth among collegiate competitors, while Richards crossed the finish line in 6.92 to place seventh. In the 200m dash, Richards again led Clemson with a sixth-place finish and time of 21.57. Michael Bolling recorded a time of 48.04 to place ninth among collegiate runners in his first 400m race of the season. In the 3000m, Roy Cheney and Lydell Perry placed sixth and seventh with times of 7.94 and 8.09 in the 60m hurdles, respectively. Both times were season-best efforts for Cheney and Perry. The Tigers’ 4x400m relay team finished third with a time of 3:10.66, narrowly missing the provisional qualifying time of 3:10.40.

In the field events, George Kitchens was the runner-up in the long jump, posting a season-best mark of 7.58m/24’10.75″. In the pole vault, Mitch Greeley cleared 5.10m/16’8.75″ to finish second among collegiate competitors. Arthur Hinton was the top Tiger finisher in the high jump with a clearance of 6’7″ Jason Bell placed third in the triple jump with a provisional qualifying mark of 51’5″, a season-best effort, while Mickey Sheats posted a mark of 48’9″. Derek Gilson was the runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 57’6.25″, and Danny Alge’s throw of 57’3.5″ was a season-best in the weight throw.

The Tigers return to action next Saturday in the Tiger Invitational.
