Three Tigers on All-ACC Team

CLEMSON, S.C. – Three Tigers earned First or Second-Team All-ACC honors, announced Monday by the ACC. Freshman outfielder Seth Beer, who was named ACC Player-of-the-Year and ACC Freshman-of-the-Year, joined junior catcher Chris Okey as First-Team All-ACC selections, while junior lefthander Pat Krall was a Second-Team All-ACC selection as a relief pitcher. Beer was also named to the All-ACC Freshman team.

Beer (Suwanee, Ga.) is hitting .378 with 15 homers, 12 doubles, 60 RBIs, 48 runs and a .528 on-base percentage in 54 games in 2016. He leads or is tied for the team lead in batting average, homers, slugging percentage (.694), walks (52) and on-base percentage (.528), and he is currently riding a 52-game on-base streak. Beer is the first Tiger freshman to earn First-Team All-ACC honors since Kyle Parker (2008), who also graduated high school a semester early to play at Clemson.

Okey (Mount Dora, Fla.) is batting .341 with 12 homers, 13 doubles, two triples, 62 RBIs, 41 walks and a .459 on-base percentage in 56 games in 2016. He has started all 56 games at catcher and has been the catcher for 481.1 of Clemson’s 504.0 innings pitched in 2016. Okey was also a First-Team All-ACC catcher in 2015 and is the Tigers’ first two-time, First-Team All-ACC selection since Richie Shaffer (2011,12).

Krall (Downingtown, Pa.) is 8-1 with four saves, a 1.29 ERA and .189 opponents’ batting average along with 58 strikeouts against only 15 walks in 70.0 innings pitched over 24 appearances (two starts) in 2016. In 54.0 innings pitched in his 22 relief appearances, he is 7-1 with an 0.67 ERA and a .182 opponents’ batting average. In his two-year career at Clemson, he is fourth in Tiger history in career strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.69) and fifth in career ERA (2.25). Krall became the first Tiger reliever to earn All-ACC honors since 2004 (Patrick Hogan).
