This Day In Clemson Sports – December 6

This Day In Clemson Sports has been provided to ClemsonTigers.com by the authors of the book, Clemson: Where the Tigers Play. Three members of the Clemson Athletic family wrote the book: Associate Sports Information Director Sam Blackman, the late Sports Information Director Emeritus Bob Bradley and Men’s Tennis Coach Chuck Kriese.

December 6, 1987 – Men’s Soccer Clemson defeated San Diego State, 2-0, and won the national championship, the second in school history. A crowd of 8,332 witnessed the championship game, the largest to see an NCAA soccer championship match.

December 6, 1997 – Women’s Soccer Sara Burkett was named to the NSCAA All-America second team. She was Clemson’s first women’s soccer All-American.

December 6, 1975 – Women’s Basketball Clemson played its first game, a 55-51 win over Davidson, at Clemson, South Carolina.
