KNOXVILLE, TN – Third-ranked Tennessee defeated Clemson 7-0 in the second round of the ITA Men’s Tennis Kickoff Weekend event at the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, TN on Saturday afternoon. Tennessee now advances to the round of 16.
The ITA Kickoff Weekend consists of 60 schools at 15 sites competing to earn spots in the elite 16-team field at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, WA on February 18-21.
Tennessee improves to 3-0, while Clemson falls to 6-2 this season. The Volunteers are ranked third nationally, and the Tigers are ranked 53rd.
At number one singles, the nation’s number one player Rhyne Williams of Tennessee defeated Derek DiFazio 6-1, 6-3 at the number-two position.
Clemson will play host to DePaul on February 11, in the Tigers’ next action.
