Swimming and Diving Set for Season Opener at Davidson

Sept. 30, 2011

DAVIDSON, NC – The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs will begin the 2011-12 season on the road against the Davidson Wildcats on Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The two teams will open up the season against each other for the second consecutive season. In last year’s matchup, the Tigers picked up a home sweep against the Wildcats, with the women winning 203-93 and the men winning 193-98.

“The team is excited to have our first competition of the season against Davidson,” Head Coach Christopher Ip said. “It will be the first time the whole team, both swimmers and divers, will be together in one venue this season. Following our Orange and White meet, we found a few events that needed strengthening. The staff has been excited to see many Tigers willing to step it up during training willing to fill those spots for us. We will have many swimmers competing in different events during the meet to fine-tune our lineup.”

The Wildcats’ women’s program finished 9-5 last season, including 9-0 in Southern Conference play. The team will carry an eight-game dual meet winning streak into this season. The men’s team was 3-6 and 3-1 within the conference.

This will be the 31st meeting between Clemson and Davidson in men’s swimming and the tenth meeting between the schools in women’s swimming and diving. The Tigers lead in both series (16-14 in men’s, 9-0 in women’s).
