The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving team has been honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for its work in the classroom during the spring semester. Both the men’s and women’s programs received the Division I Academic All-American Award and were among the top 30 schools in the nation. Individually, Eric Shulick was named an Academic All-American and was the top award winner in the ACC with a 4.0 GPA.
Both Clemson swimming teams had over a 3.0 GPA, the second time in history both swimming programs had at least a 3.0 in the same semester. The men’s team finished the spring with a 3.02 GPA, placing them 21st nationally. The Tigers finished third in the ACC behind Duke and Georgia Tech. The women’s team finished 30th with a 3.27 GPA, placing them second in the ACC behind only Duke.
The honors are the latest for Coach Chritopher Ip’s program for its academic effort. Jenna Burtch was named to the Verizon Academic All-American Second Team after graduating with a 4.0 in Psychology in May. Thomas Rappold, Jr. was named to Verizon’s Academic All-District Team and maintains a 4.0 GPA in Computer Information Systems.
