CLEMSON, S.C. – Spencer Strider (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named a freshman All-America relief pitcher by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday. Strider led the 2018 team in strikeouts (70) and was 5-2 with a 4.76 ERA, one save and a .215 opponents’ batting average in 51.0 innings pitched over 22 appearances (six starts).
As Clemson’s most impactful freshman, Strider was a big factor in its 22-8 ACC record, as he was 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 21.0 innings pitched over nine appearances (one start) in league games. He also earned All-ACC Freshman honors.
Strider became the first Tiger pitcher to earn freshman All-America honors since 2013 (Matthew Crownover).
