Stockman, Clifton to Transfer from Clemson

Clemson, SC – Clemson Head Coach Larry Shyatt has announced that guards Tony Stockman and Dwon Clifton have asked for their release and intend to transfer to another school. Both were first-year sophomores on the Clemson team this past year.

“Tony and Dwon have decided to transfer,” said Shyatt. “Both have indicated to me an interest in playing at a school that is closer to their respective homes. They are fine young men who have represented the program well. They both worked hard to overcome medical problems this past year. Both will remain in school the rest of the semester and we will help them any way we can in the transfer process.”

Stockman, a native of Medina, OH, was the top sophomore scorer in the ACC in 2001-02 with a 12.2 average, second best on the Clemson team. He made 80 three-point goals to lead Clemson in that category. It was the fifth most for a single season in Clemson history. Stockman ranked second on the team in assists with 64, shot 35.1 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from three-point range, and 68.6 percent from the foul line.

Clifton, a 6-5 native of High Point, NC, played in all 61 games over the last two years, including 24 as a starter. In 2001-02 he started seven of the 30 games and averaged 3.2 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He had 28 assists and 24 steals, shot 30.5 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from the foul line.
