Steve Pyzik Signs Free Agent Contract With the Braves

June 5, 2003

Clemson, SC –

Steve Pyzik (Mount Airy, MD) signed a free-agent contract with the Atlanta Braves Thursday. In four seasons as a catcher at Clemson, he drove in 57 runs in 168 games and committed just five errors. He also had 18 sacrifice bunts. His value to the Clemson program came as a defensive standout, as he was exceptional at blocking balls in the dirt and handling the Tiger pitchers. In 2003, Pyzik hit .305 with a homer, triple, six doubles, and 15 RBIs in 43 games. He also did not commit an error in 204 chances as a senior. He had two career walkoff hits and had the game-winning hit against Princeton in the Auburn Regional. He was a member of four NCAA Tournament teams and played in two College World Series.
