Stephenson Opens NCAA National Tournament Play Friday

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson freshman Lauren Stephenson will begin play in the 2016 NCAA Women’s Golf Tournament on Friday, May 20.  This year’s national tournament will be played at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.  She is the first Clemson women’s golfer to qualify for the NCAA National Tournament.

Stephenson qualified by virtue of her fifth-place finish at the Shoal Creek Regional May 5-7.  The freshman had a score of 223 at the regional, seven-over-par.  She had rounds of 74-75-74 and was one of just four players in the field to score 75 or better in all three rounds.

For the year, Stephenson has a 73.33 scoring average for 30 rounds in 10 tournaments, 10th best in the ACC.  The native of Lexington, S.C. has three top five finishes and 22 of her 30 rounds have been 75 or better.  Her 98 birdies established a Clemson single season record.
