Journal Entry No. 9 June 3, 2000 – Clemson, S.C.
Hey Tiger fans! What a great performance by the Tigers last night against Mississippi State. A great crowd showed up to witness a well played game by the Tigers. The game was exciting, as the record breaking crowd of 6,300 definitely got their moneys worth. The Tigers opened the scoring early by plating three runners in the first inning. Mississippi State responded in the top of the second with four runs chasing starter Ryan Mottl from the game.
Kevin Lynn entered the game with two outs in the second inning, and proceeded to pitch seven and a third innings for the win. Lynn was masterful, allowing no runs, giving up three hits, no walks, and six strikeouts in picking up his fifth win.
The Tigers trailed 4-3 until a six run fifth inning opened the flood gates. The Tigers were led at the plate by three hits apiece from Khalil Greene and Justin Singleton. Patrick Boyd and Casey Stone added two hits apiece.
The team carried its aggressive mentality to the plate, as we were not phased by the four run inning by Mississippi State. We continued to swing the bats, and the ball finally starting finding some holes in the fifth inning.
I cannot say enough about the pitching performance of Kevin Lynn. He really took charge of the game, giving the hitters confidence that we could come back and win the game. The crowd support was great for both teams. This was one of the loudest games I have been apart of at Clemson. Thanks to all of you who were able to attend, and to those of you who listened or followed the game over the internet. I hope to see as many of you in attendance today as possible. The seats will fill up quickly, so arrive early. The team asks for your continued support of our quest to Omaha! Go Tigers!
P.S. I would like to send a thank you out to our fans in Los Angeles, as well as Minnesota. I would also like to thank all the former Tigers that have called to wish the team luck in the tournament. Thank you!
