Clemson, SC – Clemson junior Kyle Stanley has been granted a sponsors exemption to the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic. The tournament will be played at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL July 9-12. Former Clemson golfer Jonathan Byrd won the event in 2007.
Stanley has been Clemson’s top player the last three years and his 71.68 career stroke average is second best in Clemson history, trailing only D.J. Trahan. He has six top 10 finishes this year, including a victory at the Carpet Classic in September. He also won the Southern Amateur last summer.
Stanley is currently ranked as the number-three amateur player in the United States by Golfweek and is the seventh ranked player in college golf by the Sagarin computer rankings.
This will be the fourth PGA Tour event for Stanley. He played in the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2007 and 2009 and the 2008 United States Open.
Stanley is one of four players who have been granted an exemption into the John Deere Classic. The others are Phillip Francis of UCLA, Jack Newman, the 2008 US Public Links Champion, and Brady Schnell, a former University of Nebraska player who is currently the top money winner on the Gateway Tour.
