On Wednesday, February 24, SOS traveled to Pendleton, SC to continue their c Three members of the rowing team – Michelle Nance, Lydia Hassell, Victoria Graham – read to first and second grade students and talked with them about the importance of reading.
On Friday, February 26, SOS visited McCants Middle School in Anderson, SC. Rowers Taylor Hoynacki and Lydia Hassell met with seventh and eighth graders to discuss the importance of college, the paths that led them to Clemson, and encouraged higher education.
Saturday, February 27 marked the fifth annual Boy Scout Day at Clemson University. The event began with a welcome from Head Baseball Coach Jack Leggett. The Boy Scouts were broken up into three groups and rotated to different stations throughout the day. Swimmers Katrina Obas, Garrison Stevens, Rachel Sparks, Deana Piper, Sarah Andrews, Elizabeth Tatum and Stephanie Fura were in charge of leading over 600 Boy Scouts and their parents around Clemson’s campus. The men’s soccer team conducted various drills involving dribbling and passing on the practice fields. Littlejohn Coliseum was the site of another station, where the women’s basketball team gave a tour of the facility and also ran drills on the practice court. The football team was also on hand to give tours, show a highlight video and let the Scouts participate in drills in Death Valley. After all the tours and activities, the Boy Scouts were admitted to the Tiger baseball game vs. Wright State and were recognized on the scoreboard in centerfield.
