The Solid Orange Squad has remained active in the community throughout the summer through events with Helping Hands and Pickens County Disability Services.
On June 18, Clemson student-athletes Chris Slate, Chad Holt, Candace Sapp and Jackie Lauer of the track and field team, along with Cassie Self (diving) and Michelle Nance (rowing), attended a cook out and played with children at Helping Hands. The student-athletes cooked hamburgers and hot dogs and played in the pool with approximately 20 children, ranging in age from 3-12, at Linda White’s (Clemson’s Director of Community Relations) house.
On June 25, SOS members visited Pickens County Disability Services to speak with people of various disabilities about what it means to Be A T.I.G.E.R. The student-athletes in attendance, Candace Sapp and Chad Holt of the track and field team and diver Cassie Self, spoke about the different traits of a Tiger and performed skits demonstrating each trait. The members of the audience were then asked questions about each character trait and were awarded prizes for their correct answers. The student-athletes concluded the assembly by teaching the Cadence Count and interacting with the group and signing autographs before leaving.
