Smith, Stinchcomb Earn Singles Championship Wins

ATHENS, Ga. – Max Smith and Trey Stinchcomb named singles champions at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships as they both won their respective brackets, as the Clemson Tigers complete the final day of the tournament in Athens. 

“Great performances for Max Smith and Trey Stinchcomb this weekend for both winning the tournament in their selective brackets. Our guys showed up each day eager to compete and implement the things individually and collectively that we are focused on,” Head Coach Brandon Wagner said. “Great weekend for our guys and they are excited to build off the momentum they gained from this event.”

Both Smith and Stinchcomb tallied four wins on the day to be crowned champions. Smith garnered wins against Charlotte’s Coy Simon (7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (9-7)), Georgia Tech’s Robert Bauer (6-1, 6-2) and Rohan Sachev (7-6 (7-5), 6-4) and finally Georgia’s Cyrus Majoob (6-3, 6-4). 

Stinchcomb defeated Vanderbilt’s Callum Rendle (6-4, 6-3) and Paul Wang (6-2, 6-2), UNCW’s Drew Broadstreet (6-4, 6-3) and finally Georgia’s Parker Mariencheck (6-1, 3-6, 6-3). 

Up next, the Tigers will compete in the ITA Regionals in Cary, N.C. from October 20th-24th.
