GREENSBORO, NC – Clemson junior middle hitter Sandra Adeleye has been named the ACC Player-of-the-Week for the period ending Oct. 30. Adeleye led Clemson to a weekend sweep of Duke and Wake Forest in Jervey Gym, nailing 35 kills in seven sets, and hitting .491. It is her second career honor, with the previous coming Nov. 1-8 of 2009.
Adeleye, a two-time All-ACC selection had 19 kills and no errors against Duke, while adding 16 kills and a .400 hitting mark against Wake Forest. For the week, she averaged 5.0 kills per set, and also added five total blocks for good measure. Her 20.5 points against Duke were the fifth-most for a Tiger this season, and the 19 kills were the fourth-most for Clemson this season, but by far the most in a three-set match for Clemson this season. In the match against Wake Forest, Adeleye also recorded her 1,000th career kill.
The big weekend helped Clemson to an 8-5 ACC mark overall, good for fifth in the conference, with the team getting ready to go on the road for five of their final seven league matches.
Adeleye currently ranks third in the ACC in hitting percentage and sixth in the league in points per set and kills per set. Clemson plays at Maryland and Boston College this weekend to continue ACC play.
