Sander Koning Garners ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s Sander Koning was named ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Koning defeated 35th-ranked Nick Boeker of Georgia at the No. 2 singles position (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) Sunday, January 26. With doubles partner John Boetsch, the Oosthuitzen, Holland, native went on to defeat Stracky Bobusic and Raian Luchici at the No. 3 doubles slot.

Earlier in the week, Koning defeated Rolando Vargas of Troy State 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles battle and teamed with Brett Twente to down David Quincenco and Clayton Langheim 8-3 in the No. 3 doubles bout. Versus Gardner-Webb, the sophomore won the No. 3 singles position against Phil Skelton 6-3, 6-1, while teaming with Brett Twente to overcome Daniel Abrano and Bryan Edmonds 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles match.

Clemson’s win over No. 6 Georgia was the Tigers’ first victory over the Bulldogs since March 30, 1988. The Tigers are now 3-0 on the season.
