Members of the 2010-11 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee met for the third annual SAAC Retreat and Business Meeting at the Clemson University Food Science Building on August 16, 2010. As part of a team building exercise, the group worked in the Cooking with the C.H.E.F.S. kitchen “lab” with Dr. Marge Condrasky, Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, and a team of student chefs who instructed the SAAC group on nutritious food choices for athletes and how to prepare a nutritious and affordable meal.
Each student-athlete was assigned a food station and then rotated to a different station so everyone had hands-on experience in each course of the meal. The student-athletes prepared Caribbean chicken, turkey meatballs, pasta salad and poppy seed fruit salad. The added bonus was that the students were able to eat the meal they prepared! The retreat concluded with SAAC’s first business meeting of the academic year.
