Clemson, S.C. — The Clemson rowing team heads to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for its first road regatta of the season, the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Louisville. The regatta features a 12-team field and will be competed over the course of two days, with races beginning at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Of those 12 teams, six are ranked in the CRCA/U.S. Rowing Preseason Poll including No. 3 Michigan, No. 7 Virginia, No. 11 Indiana, No. 12 Wisconsin, No. 16 Alabama and No. 20 Southern Methodist. Additionally, Louisville, Minnesota, Tennessee and Notre Dame are all receiving votes.
In its last appearance at the regatta on March 16, 2019, the Clemson 1V8 posted the best current-assisted time in program history at 5:40.734. Kate Hadley, Elise Sum and Kaley Wojciechowski each return from that boat. Additionally the Tiger 2V8 also posted a time of 5:54.864, the fastest current-assisted time by a 2V8. From that boat, Meghan McLean is the only returner.
The Tigers are slated to compete against boats from Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Tulsa, Minnesota and Virginia over the weekend. Clemson will hit the water for the first time on Saturday at 10:36 a.m. and will compete again at 5:24 p.m. On Sunday, the Tigers will begin their first race at 9:56 a.m.
