Athens, GA- Kim Routh carried Clemson into 28th place after day one of the NCAA Championships Thursday night in Athens, GA. The senior blazed her way to a time of 4:43.94 this morning to qualify ninth for tonight’s finals. She finished the night session in 13th place overall with a time of 4:46.54. This was the same place that she earned in 2005 in the 500. The morning time was the second fastest of the season for Routh. She previously swam a time of 4:43.90 at the Nike Cup.
Michelle Parkhurst also competed in the 50 freestyle during the preliminary session this morning. Parkhurst posted a time of 23.52 to tie for 60th place overall. The Lady Tigers will be back in action tomorrow morning. Routh will be swimming the 200 freestyle, while Parkhurst will swim her best event, the 100 backstroke. The preliminary heats will begin at 11 am.
