Clemson, SC – Senior guard K.C. Rivers has been named team captain for the 2008-09 Clemson men’s basketball team. Head Coach Oliver Purnell made the announcement Friday.
“As our senior captain, we look to K.C. to continue to lead by example and challenge his teammates to go above and beyond this season,” Purnell said.
Rivers was a second-team All-ACC selection in 2008 and was also a first-team All-ACC Tournament choice after scoring 28 points in the conference tournament final against North Carolina. He led the Tigers in scoring for the second straight year with 14.7 points per game, and also ranked third on the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. Rivers was second on the squad in three-point accuracy (40.2 percent).
The Charlotte, NC native enters his senior season with 1,231 career points scored, which ranks in a tie for 19th among the program’s all-time leaders. He has scored at least 500 points each of the last two seasons. Rivers also ranks fourth in school history with 212 career three-point goals. The school record is 259, set by Terrell McIntyre from 1995-99. He also ranks eight on the school’s career steals list, tallying 155 thefts through three seasons of play.
