Renata Miyamoto Leads Clemson on Day One of Weems Baskin Relays

Columbia, SC – The Clemson women’s track & field team opened its outdoor season at the Weems Baskin Relays on Friday. Renata Miyamoto posted a regional-qualifying mark in the triple jump and also claimed the event title during the first day of competition.

The 4x800m relay team for the Lady Tigers finished third with a time of 9:43.43. The 800m sprint medley team was third out of nine schools with a time of 1:45.35.

Miyamoto claimed the triple jump after posting a mark of 40’5″. Freshman Tonya Nwankwo was fifth with a leap of 36’10.25″. Charmayne Smith hit 35’11.25″ to place sixth in the field.

Krystal Woods recorded a mark of 138’8″ to claim the javelin throw title, giving the Lady Tigers two event winners on Friday. The hammer throw competition was won by Nikole Simmons of Appalachian State, but Clemson junior Della Clark placed third with a mark of 159’7.75″. Rochelle Kokayko was eighth overall with a toss of 137’5.25″. Rachel McLaurin, competing in her first field event at Clemson, threw the javelin 80’5″ after transferring into the program from the Tiger swimming team.

Clemson will compete in day two at the Weems Baskin Relays on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 AM at the Gamecocks’ outdoor facility.
