ATLANTA, GA. – With half of the team competing in the Nike Cup Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., Clemson divers Tabitha Banks, Sarah Blank, Sarah Braun, Allison Brophy, Megan Jendra and Danielle Reitsma traveled to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational in a simultaneous meet held Nov. 19-21. The Tigers finished ninth overall, earning 32 team points, out the field of 16 competing teams.
In the one-meter event held on Nov. 19, Reitsma was Clemson’s best finisher after scoring a 238.70, good for 23rd place out of the field of 62 divers. Braun was not far behind, earning a 27th place finish, scoring a 223.25. Brophy (42nd), Blank (46th), Banks (51st) and Jendra (54th) rounded out the field for the Tigers in the event.
Three-meter competitive diving saw a switch in finishers from the one-meter results for Clemson, this time with Braun finishing ahead of Reitsma after posting a 245.05 for a 22nd place finish to Reitsma’s 240.40 and 26th place out of the field of 60. Blank, Brophy and Jendra finished 39th, 42nd, and 51st in the event, respectively.
The final events of the invitational were the platform events, which took place Saturday, Nov. 21. With this being the first time the Tigers dove competitively in the platform event this season, Clemson chose to dive in both the exhibition and official formats in an effort to gain valuable, competitive repetitions. The platform exhibition included six total divers, of which four were Tigers. Reitsma won the exhibition event with a score of 293.00 to lead Clemson. Braun finished third with a 266.30, Brophy finished fourth with a 223.25 and Jendra finished fifth with a 195.00.
In the official format for the platform event, Reitsma again paced the Tigers, finishing seventh out of the field of 44 divers with a 237.65. The score qualified her for a spot in the NCAA Zone B competition in the event, which is the second Zone-qualifying mark she has garnered this season. Reitsma previously earned a spot in the Zone meet in the three-meter event after her performance against South Carolina in Clemson’s first meet of the season. Following Reitsma was Brophy, who earned a 22nd place finish, Braun (24th) and Jendra (34th) to round out the field for the Tigers.
Clemson will be back in competitive waters when it travels to Athens, Ga. for the UGA Diving Invite Jan.3-5 at the conclusion of the holiday breaks and the team’s training trip to Florida.
