GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Danielle Reitsma advanced to the finals of the platform diving to finish 12th overall on Wednesday at the NCAA Zone B Championships at the Greensboro Aquatics Center. Reitsma is the first member of the women’s diving only program to advance to the finals of any event at NCAA Zones.
The mid-year enrollee, who hails from Calgary, Canada, finished 11th in the prelim dives with a score of 232.25. Reitsma then went on to finish 12th in the finals with a score of 461.10. Scores from the prelim dives are carried over to the finals and final round dives are added to that score.
Both her finish and her prelim score are each the highest at NCAA Zones in the platform event in school history. The previous high in each was an 18th-place finish and a score of 202.25 by Megan Helwagen last season.
Fellow freshman Sarah Braun went on to finish 18th in the prelims with a score of 207.45. Jessica Resler finished 22nd with a mark of 190.25 while Helwagen finished in 26th with a 169.95. Braun and Resler along with Reitsma competed in the platform event at NCAA Zones for the first time of their respective careers.
The meet concludes the 2013-14 season for the Tigers. Clemson finished the regular season 10-1-1 in dual meets, including a 7-0 mark at home, in just its second season as a program.
