Ramsey to Start Play in Kraft Nabisco Championship Thursday

CLEMSON, SC – Ashlan Ramsey, a high school senior who signed a national letter of intent with Clemson last fall, will play in the Kraft Nabisco Championship on the LPGA Tour this April 4-7. It is the first of four Majors on the LPGA Tour. Ramsey attends Milledge Academy in Milledgeville, GA and is ranked among the top women’s amateur players in the nation.

Ramsey will begin play on Thursday at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA at 8:30 AM Pacific time and will be paired with former Penn State player Katie Futcher. The par 72 course is 6,738 yards in length. Ramsey is one of nine amateurs in the tournament that will award $2 million in prize money to the competing professionals.

Ramsey, who will join her sister Taylor on the 2013 Lady Tigers team, has won three tournaments in the last year and was ranked fourth among the top 10 Junior Golfers by Golfweek at the conclusion of the 2012 season. She is currently seventh in 2013. She gained victory in 2012 at the Sea Pines Junior Heritage, the Georgia Junior PGA and the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational.

Ramsey has played well in 2013 as well, as she already has a fourth-place finish at the Harder Hall Invitational, a fifth-place finish at SALLY, reached the semifinals of the Jones-Doherty Amateur and finished third at the Kathy Whitworth Invitational just a couple of weeks ago.

Ramsey made national news last summer when she reached the championship match of the US Public Links. She also reached the round of 16 of the US Junior Girls Tournament and the final 32 of the US Women’s Amateur.

She has been a first-team Rolex All-American each of the last two years, and has a #57 World Amateur Ranking. The high school senior was the 2012 Georgia State Golf Association Girls Player of the Year in 2012 and was co-recipient of that award in 2011.
