Ramsey Tied for 17th after First Round of Kraft Nabisco Championship

CLEMSON, SC – Future Clemson golfer Ashlan Ramsey fired a one-under-par 71 on Thursday to rank in 17th place after the first round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club at Rancho Mirage, CA. The native of Milledgeville, GA will be a freshman at Clemson next August.

Ramsey is the top amateur in the field after the first round after scoring a 36 on the front nine and a 35 on the back nine on the par 72 course. She got off to a rough start with two bogeys in the first three holes, then had back to back birdies on the seventh and eighth holes. She made bogey on the 10th, then had three birdies over the last eight holes. She played the par three holes in three-under-par.

It was a scrambling performance for Ramsey, who hit just 5 of 14 fairways and reached just 12 of 18 greens in regulation. But her short game was good, as she had just 29 putts for the 18 holes.

Ramsey’s performance was especially incredible when you consider she is just three shots off the lead and defeated 12 of the top 16 women’s golfers in the world with her first round performance. Among the women Ramsey leads after one round are world number-one Stacy Lewis (73), number-two ranked Yani Tseng (72), number-10 Paula Cremer (74), number-14 Karrie Webb (72), Natalie Gulbis (74) and Michelle Wie (72).

Clemson will begin play in women’s golf this coming August and Ramsey will be the team’s top ranked player.
