CLEMSON, SC – Clemson men’s basketball coach Oliver Purnell and his wife, Vicky, presented a check in the amount of $125,000 for Coaches vs. Cancer prior to the game against Duke on Saturday, Jan. 23. The donation stems from funds raised at the Tigerfest charity event, held last October at the Madren Center.
This is the second straight year Oliver and Vicky Purnell Charities, Inc. has donated at least $100,000 to Coaches vs. Cancer, a partner of the American Cancer Society. Last January, the couple donated a check for $100,000 to the organization prior to the Clemson-Wake Forest game. Tonight, the Purnells were joined by Coaches vs. Cancer representative Anne Koutoufas, as well as Tigerfest sponsors Charles Dalton and Jim Lovingood of Blue Ridge Security Systems and Blue Ridge Electric. The presentation occurred at the 12-minute mark on the pregame clock.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers coaches to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Since the concept was adopted in 1993, more than 500 coaches are involved in the program and nearly $50 million has been raised to increase cancer awareness.
