Planters Awards Clemson for Having the NCAA’s Nuttiest Fans

May 16, 2005

The Clemson Athletic Department has been awarded $10,000 for having the “Nuttiest” fans in NCAA Division I, Planters® announced today. The Nuttiest Fans Vote, which ran from January 17 to April 3 on Planters.com, asked NCAA fans to cast their vote with the winning school’s athletic department receiving a $10,000 donation. Tiger fans came out in full force to win the award, which will go towards development of Clemson’s WestZone Initiative.

“We would like to thank Planters® and Tiger fans all over the world for their participation in this contest,” said Clemson Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Bill D’Andrea. “This reflects the spirit of pride and community prevalent throughout the Clemson family. Fans are an important part of our total program and we are grateful for their efforts to promote the Clemson name.”

In its third consecutive year, Clemson succeeds Virginia Tech (2003) and Texas A&M (2004) as winner of the Planters® Nuttiest Fans Vote.

“Planters is thrilled to award Clemson with this year’s $10,000 prize in our annual search for the NCAA’s Nuttiest Fans,” said Scott Tannen, Planters® Associate Director of Digital Marketing. “There were thousands of votes cast and the Clemson faithful should be extremely proud of their accomplishment and impressive turnout. Without a doubt, Clemson has proven that Tiger Fans are, in fact, the “nuttiest” in the nation!”

Opening in 2006, the WestZone Club is the cornerstone of Clemson’s efforts to transform Memorial Stadium into one of the most innovative and inviting stadiums in the nation. For more information, visit http://www.westzoneclub.com
