CHRISTIANSBURG, VA – Eric Bruck and Chris Dart each won individual conference championships as the Clemson men’s swimming and diving team closed out competition at the 2012 ACC Championships on Saturday. The Tigers finished in eighth place in the meet with 252.5 points. Virginia won the meet with 626.5 points.

“Our Tigers fought their hearts out for Clemson,” Head Coach Christopher Ip said. “Two great efforts from Chris Dart and Eric Bruck. Both will head to the NCAA meet to represent Clemson. We also have relays on the bubble. Chris Dart will also be heading to British Olympic trials at the end of the week. We are not done yet.”

Bruck and Dart ruled the day, capping a four-day run that has seen them atop the standings in multiple events. Bruck `s title in the 100 freestyle was his second of the meet to go along with his victory in the 50 freestyle. Dart finished second in the 100 backstroke on Friday before breaking through in the 200 backstroke on Saturday.

Dart’s championship-winning swim in the 200 back came in an NCAA-B qualifying time of 1:42.98, which sets the school record by three-hundredths of a second. He won a tightly-contested race by just over a tenth of a second and earned the Tigers 20 points in the meet.

Bruck followed Dart’s performance with his second sprint freestyle crown of the conference meet. He swam the 100 free in an NCAA-B qualifying time of 43.11 seconds, which broke his own school record. He also earned 20 points for the Tigers, as he won the race with less than a tenth of a second between himself and his closest competitor.

While Bruck took home top honors in the 100 free, he was not the only Tiger to score in the event. Chris Reinke finished in 16th place with a time of 47.28 seconds. His preliminary time of 44.18 seconds set a personal record and moved him up to sixth place on the school’s all-time list.

Elsewhere, the 400 freestyle relay team of Dart, Reinke, Seth Broster, and Bruck finished fourth with an NCAA-B qualifying time of 2:54.39, which sets another school record. Dart’s leadoff split of 44.28 seconds is a personal best and moves him into eighth place on the school’s all-time list.
