CLEMSON, S.C. – Freshman Davis Sharpe went 2-for-2 with a homer, four RBIs and a walk to lead Purple to a 9-3 win in seven innings over Orange in the final Orange & Purple Scrimmage at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, Purple won the series 2-1. The intrasquad scrimmages marked the end of the fall practice season.
Jordan Greene and Sam Hall both led off the first inning with a double and scored for their respective teams, then Purple scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead. Sharpe hit a three-run homer inside the left-field foul pole to cap the scoring.
Orange cut the Purple lead in half in the fifth inning on a run-scoring single by Elijah Henderson and a sacrifice fly by Jordan Greene, but Purple scored four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by run-scoring singles by Bryar Hawkins and Sharpe.
Freshman lefthander Justin Wrobleski allowed four hits and one run in 4.0 innings to earn the win, while Carson Spiers struck out all five batters he faced to record the save.
Sharpe had a series-high five RBIs, while Logan Davidson went 2-for-6 with a homer, double and four RBIs in the three games. Hawkins also went 3-for-7 with two RBIs for Purple. Spiers pitched 4.0 hitless and scoreless innings with seven strikeouts against no walks in three relief appearances as well.
James Parker went 3-for-9 with three RBIs to pace Orange in the series, while Henderson was 3-for-6 with two RBIs.
The Tigers open the 2019 season with a three-game home series against South Alabama from Feb. 15-17.
