CLEMSON, S.C. – Behind four home runs, Purple defeated Orange 9-5 in seven innings to even the series 1-1 in the Orange & Purple Scrimmages at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Friday night.
Sam Hall and Logan Davidson led off the game with solo homers for Purple, then Orange responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a run-scoring single by Grayson Byrd and a run-scoring double by Adam Hackenberg. Purple took an 8-2 lead with five runs in the third inning, capped by a two-run, inside-the-park home run by Bryce Teodosio, who added a double in the sixth inning. Bryar Hawkins belted a run-scoring single in the fifth inning for Purple.
Freshman righthander Davis Sharpe pitched 4.0 solid innings in a starting role to earn the win. Andrew Coker, Mat Clark and Carson Spiers combined to pitch the final 3.0 innings without allowing an earned run.
The Tigers play their third of three Orange & Purple Scrimmages at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free.
