On-Line Auction Raises $5,000 for Charities

CARLSBAD, Calif., – The FANSonly Network, home of official athletic sites for more than 50 universities and conferences, announced the results from the first-ever online sports charity auction hosted by FANSonly, April 26-30. The online auction, which featured 47 donated items from 33 schools, raised $5,251 for Coaches vs. Cancer and The V Foundation.

The FANSonly Network, which manages the online presence, brands and affinity audiences for more than 50 major collegiate athletic departments, is the largest college sports news and entertainment Internet site.

The on-line auction, which was powered by technology partner FairMarket, Inc., provided a wide selection of bid items, including football and basketball game tickets, officially licensed merchandise and memorabilia. The highest item sold in the auction was an autographed football from new Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops, which went for $350. Other popular items were an Ohio State prize package ($291); an autographed basketball from the Stanford men’s squad ($276) and a pair of tickets to the North Carolina-N.C. “We are quite pleased with the results from both a participatory and donation standpoint,” stated FANSonly business development manager Mark Eby. “As the first-ever on-line charity auction ever hosted on the Internet we weren’t sure what to expect, but our visitors got behind the event, which led to spirited bidding for all of our items.”

Benefactors of the FANSonly Charity Auction were Coaches vs. Cancer and the V Foundation, which split 100 percent of the proceeds generated from the auction.

Coaches vs. Cancer (www.cancer.org/coaches/index.html) – Coaches vs. Cancer is a partnership of the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), and is dedicated to decreasing risk of cancer in youths by utilizing fan contributions to fund children’s cancer research, tobacco education, advocacy and patient services of the American Cancer Society.

The V Foundation (www.jimmyv.org/) – The V Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to saving lives by helping find a cure for cancer. It seeks to make a difference by generating broad-based support for cancer research and by creating an urgent awareness among all Americans of the importance of the war against cancer.
