North Carolina Defeats Clemson in ACC Volleyball Championship Match

Orlando, Fl.-The North Carolina volleyball team defeated 13th ranked Clemson 3-1 on Sunday to win the ACC Volleyball Championship at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL. The second-seeded Tar Heels defeated the top-seeded Tigers, 15-3, 14-16, 15-5, 15-8.

North Carolina jumped to an easy win in game one, then took a 10-3 lead in game two. Clemson tied game two 10-10, then went on to win the game 16-14. The Tar Heels rebounded for a 15-5 win in game three, and took the match with a 15-8 victory in game four.

Junior Casey Simpson led the Tar Heels with 23 kills, six errors and 57 attempts. Senior Tori Seibert, the ACC Tournament MVP, had 18 kills, three errors and 34 attempts for a .441 attack percentage. Senior Asa Gustavsson had 16 kills in the victory, while sophomore Krista Buchholz had 10 kills fo the team. Five North Carolina players were in double-figures in digs: junior Liz Feldman (19), Gustavsson (18), Simpson (18), freshman Laura Greene (10)and freshman Eve Rackman (11). Rackman led the team with 61 assists.

For Clemson, seniors Cindy Stern and Alison Coday each had 16 kills. Junior Heidi Cooper and sophomore Jodi Steffes led the team with 16 digs apiece, while freshman setter Jessi Betcher had 52 assists and 13 digs.

With the win, UNC improves to 27-5 on the season, while Clemson drops to 31-2.
