No. 25 Clemson Falls to Unranked Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Ron Hale scored a career-high 31 points and Terrell Baker added 20 Tuesday night as Florida State overcame eight 3-point shots by Terrell McIntrye to beat No. 25 Clemson 70-64.

Five free throws by Hale and two by Baker in the final 25.5 seconds helped the Seminoles (9-6, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) hang on.

McIntyre finished with 27 points and Harold Jamison added 12 for Clemson (12-5, 1-3).

After two free throws by Hale gave Florida State a 65-61 lead, Johnny Miller hit a 3-point basket with 21 seconds left as Clemson closed to 65-64.

Hale, a 6-8 junior averaging 22.8 points in ACC games, scored 16 in the first half to help Florida State to a 27-25 lead. He hit 10-of-14 shots, including 3-of-4 tries from 3-point distance. Baker his 8-of-11 shots and led the Seminoles with six rebounds.

Hale scored nine points during a 18-2 run midway through the second half that boosted the Seminoles to their largest lead, 54-42.

But McIntyre’s outside shooting, which had kept Clemson in the game, brought the Tigers to 58-55 with three minutes left with his career-best seventh 3-pointer.

Florida State took a 13-5 lead after holding Clemson scoreless for the opening 5:31. The Seminoles held several leads of eight points before Clemson used a 10-0 run to take its first lead, 25-23, on Tony Christie’s 3-point jumper with 3:13 left in the half.
