DURHAM, N.C. – The 22nd ranked Clemson men’s tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 18 Wake Forest Saturday afternoon at Duke’s Sheffield Tennis Center. The match was the consolation contest in this weekend’s ITA Kickoff Event. Clemson falls to 2-2 on the season while Wake Forest improves to 3-1.
Clemson earned the doubles point in the match courtesy of wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles. Seniors Hunter Harrington and Alejandro Augusto, the 60th ranked duo in the nation, knocked off the Wake Forest team of Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim 6-4. Clemson’s Luke Johnson and Austin Ansari were victorious over Wake Forest’s Romaine Bogaerts and Maksim Kan 6-4.
In singles play, Clemson’s Ansari and Daffra Sanon played hard fought matches that were cut short due to the decision. Augusto hang tough against Bogaerts, the 12th ranked singles player in the nation.
Clemson has the week off before visiting No. 29 South Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. Following that match, the Tigers host a triple-header on Saturday, Feb. 7. More details will be provided.
