Game Preview

Clemson, S.C. – For the first time in program history, No. 20 (5-1, 1-1 ACC) Clemson will host No. 8 North Carolina (4-2, 1-1 ACC) on Saturday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Clemson’s Lacrosse Complex. The game will be streamed live on ACCNX and live stats will be available here.

Clemson comes off a dominating 22-10 win over Mercer on Tuesday, March 5. In the matchup, Clemson outshot Mercer 47-19 and secured 24 of the 32 draws, as Megan Halczuk recorded a career high 17 draw controls. The Tigers have not lost a draw control battle yet this season. With multiple threats on offense, Clemson has been able to spread the ball, averaging 8.33 goal scorers per game. With at least three points in every game, including a season high of six goals against Mercer, Claire Bockstie is leading the Tigers in goals, assists and total points.

North Carolina will be the highest ranked opponent Clemson has faced so far this season, with No. 14 Virginia being the only other ranked opponent the Tigers have played. Like Clemson, North Carolina is 1-1 in ACC play, losing to Notre Dame and defeating Virginia. Clemson is averaging more points per game, ground balls per game and clear percentage than North Carolina. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels are slightly averaging more draw controls, shots and save percentages.

The Tar Heels are the only team that Clemson faced twice last season, first in the regular season in Chapel Hill, N.C and then again in the ACC Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. In their first meeting, Clemson lost 17-8 and in their second Clemson lost 16-6. The Tigers now look to defeat the Tar Heels for the first time in program history as they play in Clemson’s Lacrosse Complex.
