NCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL RULES CHANGES

EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2002

WHO TELEPHONE CONTACTS MAIL

High School Freshman

 

College coaching staff members may not initiate telephone calls to prospect.

 

No in-person, off-campus contacts are permitted with prospect, parent or legal guardian.

 

 

Prospect may be evaluated by college coach.

 

May receive listed permissible recruiting materials (camp/clinic brochures, NCAA educational material and questionnaires)

High School Sophomores

 

College coaching staff members may not initiate telephone calls to prospect

 

 

At the conclusion of prospect’s sophomore year prospect may place unlimited toll free/collect calls to an institution.

 

Prospect may be evaluated by college coach.

 

 

No in-person, off-campus contacts are permitted with prospect, parent or legal guardian.

 

 

 

May receive listed permissible recruiting materials (camp/clinic brochures, NCAA educational material and questionnaires).

 

 

At conclusion of prospect’s sophomore year, prospect may receive correspondence from an institution.

High School Juniors

 

May receive one telephone call in the month of March (Not for this year’s class-effective April 1).

 

 

May receive one telephone call on or after June 21.

 

 

May receive three telephone calls in July. Not more than one per week.

 

Prospect may be evaluated by college coach.

 

 

May be contacted one time on high school campus beginning with the first Wednesday following completion of the NCAA Men’s Division 1 Basketball Championship through April 30 excluding the dead period of April 8-11, 2002.

 

 

May be provided official visit on or after January 1. Visits may not occur during the summer.

 

 

May not make unofficial visits during the month of July.

 

 

May be evaluated twice (one academic/ one athletic) between April 15- May 31.

 

 

April evaluations must be approved, sanctioned, sponsored or conducted by the high school association or National Federation of High Schools. May occur on weekends.

 

 

May not have contact with coaches during the summer at NCAA certified events.

 

 

May not be contacted on weekends during fall evaluation period.

 

May receive listed permissible recruiting materials (general correspondence, business cards, camp brochures, electronic transmissions, NCAA educational material, athletic publications, questionnaires, schedule cards).

High School Seniors

 

One telephone call per week.

 

April evaluations must be approved, sanctioned, sponsored or conducted by the high school association or National Federation of High Schools. May occur on weekends.

 

 

 

May receive permissible recruiting materials (general correspondence, business cards, camp brochures, electronic transmissions, NCAA educational material, athletic publications, questionnaires, schedule cards).
