Men’s Track & Field Takes to Blacksburg for Virginia Tech Invitational

Jan. 10, 2008

Clemson, SC – The men’s track & field team will resume the 2007-08 indoor season this weekend by traveling to Blacksburg, VA for the Virginia Tech Invitational. Clemson will compete in the 200m, 400m, 4x400m, and field events at Rector Field House on Saturday.

Mitch Greeley and Travis Padgett highlight those making the trip to Blacksburg this weekend. Both posted NCAA qualifying marks at the Clemson Opener in December, with Padgett earning an automatic berth in the 60m dash at the national meet. Greeley has a strong provisional mark in the pole vault. Both will be in action this weekend.

Padgett will be joined in the 200m dash by Gwantaveus Anderson and Trenton Guy. A freshman out of Charlotte, NC, Guy has also provisionally qualified for the 60m dash at the NCAA Championships. He owns the best time on the team in the 200m dash this year. The 200m is set for 2:45 PM.

Corey Brown, Cowin Mills, Andrew Porter, and Travis Swaggard will compete in both the 400m dash and 4x400m relay this weekend. The quarter mile run is scheduled for 1:35, while the 1600m relay will be at 4:15 PM.

Greeley will be joined in the pole vault by Chris Spear, a sophomore from Montgomery, AL. The competition will be held at 2:00 PM. Greeley owns a personal best indoor clearance of 17’8.5″ at last season’s Tyson Invitational in Arkansas. His best clearance at Rector Field House was a 17’7″ mark in 2007.

Three student-athletes are entered in the long jump, which is scheduled for 2:30 PM. George Fields, defending ACC champion in the event, owns a personal best mark of 24’9.75″. Multi-event athletes Mike Feathers and Miller Moss will also long jump for the Tigers on Saturday.

Scott Pauga will compete in the high jump at 9:00 AM, while Alex Padgett and Stephen White are entered in the shot put. That event will take place at 12:00 noon.
