Men’s Track & Field Shows Holiday Spirit

Dec. 12, 2007

Clemson, SC – The men’s track & field team showed off its Christmas spirit Tuesday night by sharing gifts with a family from the local community. The team held its annual Christmas party at Tiger Den in the football stadium.

With assistance from Clemson Elementary, the team was able to choose a family to share Christmas gifts with. Tony Davis and his five children were at Tuesday night’s party to celebrate the holiday season. He has three boys, including 11-year old Tymarick and twin six-year olds Tamajea and Tamyus. He also has two daughters, Tamara and Tatiana.

The coaching staff and members of the track & field team pooled money together as a group to purchase Christmas gifts for the Davis children. The seniors on the 2007-08 team – Matt Clark, Mitch Greeley, and Cowin Mills – then went and purchased gifts that the children enjoyed opening Tuesday night at the party.

“Our event shows the true meaning of Christmas,” said Bob Pollock, head coach of the Tiger program. “Seeing the tears of joy in the father and grandmother’s eyes really gave you a warm feeling inside. To be able to give to others who may not be as fortunate was truly a blessing.

“It was nice to know we were able to touch another family during this holiday season. It was especially nice for our student-athletes to be able to see what joy their gifts could bring.”
