Men’s Track & Field Completes Day One at Clemson Relays

The men’s track & field team completed day one of competition at the Clemson Relays on Friday, March 24. George Fields captured the long jump with a regional-qualifying effort to highlight Clemson’s performance on Friday. Mitch Greeley also posted a regional-qualifying mark in the pole vault.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Clemson junior Sean Reilly was second overall after posting a time of 9:39.23 in that event. He finished behind Daniel Amick of Mars Hill College, who finished in 9:35.77. In the 10,000m run, Jay Lumpkins finished second with a time of 31:21.41.

Fields won the long jump with a mark of 24’1.75″, which he achieved in the prelims of the event. He finished ahead of Juan Walker from Middle Tennessee, who posted a mark of 23’10.75″.

Greeley, an indoor All-American, finished third in the pole vault for Clemson after clearing 16’10.75″. With his performance, he moved into third all-time on Clemson’s outdoor pole vault list. His previous best outdoors had been 16’8.75″ at the Junior Pan Ams last summer. He finished behind a pair of Georgia athletes, Adam Sarafian and Wes Fuller.

The action continues tomorrow at the Rock Norman Outdoor Track Complex. The first men’s event scheduled to get underway is the hammer throw at 10:00 AM.
