Men’s Track & Field Announces Signees for 2008-09 Season

Clemson, SC – The men’s track & field team has signed five student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent, Clemson Head Coach Bob Pollock said Wednesday. The Tiger program added national-level standouts in the sprints, hurdles, high jump, and pole vault.

“This is a quality class,” Pollock said. “We’re real excited these student-athletes have decided to join the Clemson program. Hopefully they will be able to contribute to our success right away, as we continue to compete at a championship level.”

Justin Murdock is the latest top-notch sprinter to sign with the Clemson program. A native of Hyattsville, MD, he is a four-time All-American in various events. He placed fourth in the 60m dash at the 2007 Nike Indoor Nationals, and then was runner-up in the event (6.72) at the 2008 National Scholastic Indoor Championship. Murdock was sixth in the 100m dash at the 2007 Nike Outdoor Nationals, an event won by current Clemson freshman Trenton Guy. He then placed third at the 2008 NSIC meet in the 200m dash. He owns personal bests of 6.21 (55m) and 21.27 (200m).

Spencer Adams, a product of Matthews, NC, signed a football scholarship in February but plans to run track as well at Clemson. He will follow in the footsteps of current gridiron stars C.J. Spiller, who are excelling in track as well for Clemson. Adams was the 2008 national champion at the NSIC meet after running a 7.76 in the 60m hurdles. He is also defending AAAA state champion in the 110m hurdles and state record-holder in the 300m hurdles. Adams is listed by ESPN.com as the #3 safety prospect in the nation for football.

Ethan Nixon brings impressive credentials in multiple events, namely the hurdles and high jump. An Evington, VA native, he competed in both the 60m hurdles and high jump at the 2007 and 2008 Nike Indoor Nationals. He finished 10th in the high jump in 2007 and 12th in the high hurdles at this year’s meet. Nixon was also AA state champion in the 55m hurdles and high jump. He was recently named Region III Indoor Athlete-of-the-Year.

Andrew Kahl has signed with Clemson as one of the nation’s top high jumpers. The Syracuse, NY native (Cicero-North Syracuse High School) is a three-time All-American, including twice at the National Scholastic Indoor Championship. He finished third at the NSIC meet in 2007 and fourth in 2008. He also was a Nike Outdoor All-American in 2007 after a seventh-place finish. An indoor state champion, Kahl’s personal best was a 6’11.25″ clearance at the 2008 Bob Grieve Invitational.

Daniel Inge (Lynchburg, VA) was an All-American in 2008 at the Nike Indoor Nationals after finishing seventh in the pole vault. He is a two-time AAA state champion in the event for E.C. Glass High School and three-time Northwest Region winner. Inge, who was named Virginia’s Boys’ Indoor Vaulter-of-the-Year in 2008, owns a personal best of 16’5″, which he recorded this outdoor season.
