Men’s Track And Field Wins Four Events At Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Todd Matthews won the 110 hurdles and three Clemson relay teams won events, leading the Clemson men’s track team during competition at the Florida Relays over the weekend. The events were held at the Percy Beard Track at the University of Florida. Sixty-eight different college track teams were involved in the meet.

Matthews won the 110 hurdles in the invitational portion of the competition with a time of 13.85. The sophomore from Trenton, NJ was an All-ACC competitor in the event last year.

Bob Pollock’s team took first place honors in the 4X110 shuttle relay (56.05), 4X200 relay (1:23.12) and the 4X100 relay (39.67).

Clemson had four other individuals who finished in the top three of individual events. Jacey Harper, a freshman from Trinidad, finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.52. Andy Giesler, a junior from Loveland, OH, finished third in the decathlon with 7348 points. Bryan Williams finished third in the triple jump with a 49 3 3/4 leap.

Malcolm Reynolds finished second in the high jump with a leap of 6-9 3/4. Clemson had two athletes finish in the top eight of the 1500 meters. Scott Shaw, a freshman from Syracuse, NJ, was seventh with a time of 3:59.72, while Steve Alexander was eighth at 4:01.24. The Clemson men will next see action at the Clemson Invitational April 1.
